  • Inspired by an initiative of the Rouen diocese and in partnership with it, the aim of this project is to introduce artists' works (paintings, sculptures, photographs, etc.) into the church and bring together the "sacred" dimension of the studio and that of the place of worship. This year, painter Marianne Laurencis will be exhibiting 12 paintings, all inspired by the village and its surroundings: "Si Vergnies m'était conté".
Exhibition open from 1 March to 31 October, during church opening hours.

  • Laurence Dervaux is offering us a striking experience in the church of Saint Nicolas de Myre. She suspended gigantic glass drops from the ceiling. Each drop is filled with a red liquid whose volume corresponds to the amount of blood in the bodies of children, women and men. This installation, of great formal beauty, sublimates one of the fluids essential to life. In this architectural and spiritual context, and in the face of current geopolitical challenges, this vital blood takes...

  • Founded in 1123, the abbey owes its name to the nearby forest of Bellum Fagetum, meaning Belle Hêtraie, in Walloon Bê Fayi, from which Beaufays derives. Placed under the authority of the bishop of Verdun and then that of the prince-bishop of Liège, the small community of canons lived through more than seven centuries of sometimes turbulent history. This year, thanks to the support of the King Baudouin Foundation, the 18th century stuccoed ceiling of the pavilion will be restored....

A final resting place in a church used to be an important status symbol. At the end of the 18th century, the government banned the burial of ‘rich stinkers’ in and around the church for hygienic reasons. So it also happens in St Gummarus church. Thanks to the thorough restoration of St Gummarus Church, we can now take a unique look at the underground of the church from the viewing box. Discover how past...

Its Romanesque origins (11th-12th c.) are clearly visible, with its massive tower in front of the naves. The chancel is also covered by a beautiful brick rib vault dating from 1566, one of the few examples of this type to have survived in Belgium. Another striking feature is a console with interesting moulding supporting a statue of Saint Géry. Lastly, there are a number...
