Church | 1310-1848 | Neogothic | Catholic Church
Laurence Dervaux is offering us a striking experience in the church of Saint Nicolas de Myre. She suspended gigantic glass drops from the ceiling. Each drop is filled with a red liquid whose volume corresponds to the amount of blood in the bodies of children, women and men. This installation, of great formal beauty, sublimates one of the fluids essential to life. In this architectural and spiritual context, and in the face of current geopolitical challenges, this vital blood takes on an almost sacrificial dimension. Some come close to falling, others are at eye level, but all underline the vulnerability of humanity. They are like ex-votos, giving thanks or asking for life to be preserved.
