Weekend of the open churches 2024, impressions

Monday 10 June 2024

Once again this year, the traditional Open Church Days took place on the first weekend in June. The theme was: flowers and plants. 58 churches opened their doors, in many places with a special programme. Click through the photo album here and be surprised by the splendour and diversity of Luxembourg's religious heritage.

To kick off the event, ErwuesseBildung and the parish of Luxembourg invited guests to a spectacular organ concert with the well-known organist Maurice Clement in St Michael's Church on the fish market. We were honoured to be joined by the Archbishopric, represented by Auxiliary Bishop Léon Wagener, the Ministry of Culture, represented by Patrick Dondelinger, responsible for intangible cultural heritage, and the City of Luxembourg, represented by alderman Maurice Bauer and Conseiller Robert Philippart. Theologian Christiane Kremer-Hoffmann gave a brief introduction to the importance of flowers and plants in Christianity and in the design of religious spaces.

Guided tours and concerts were offered in numerous churches. And the churches were richly decorated with flowers.

A big thank you goes to all the local people who took part in the weekend, who decorated their churches, opened the doors and welcomed all visitors. And of course to all the generations before us who have ensured that we can call such an overwhelming religious heritage our own today.
