Weekend of the open churches in Luxembourg in 2024

flowers and plants

Thursday 25 April 2024

58 churches open their doors on the Open Church Weekend. A variety of cultural programmes are on offer in 21 of those churches. These range from guided tours, workshops, concerts, and conferences to exhibitions.

39 of these churches are open all year round and are part of the European network of open churches.

This year's theme is flowers and plants.

Grapes, roses, lilies, ivy and other representations of plants and flowers not only embellish sacred spaces, they also often puzzle us. As a lively and colourful arrangement, they symbolise the beauty and healing power of faith and much more.

This year, some churches are also opening their doors for the first time in very special places that are not often visited, such as the chapels on the Pirmesknupp near Kaundorf, the Loretto Chapel in Clerf or small churches such as those in Lultzhausen, Elvingen and Colmar-Berg, right next to the castle park of the Grand Ducal family, which is also open to the public this weekend.

Opening of the weekend of the open churches:

On Friday, 31 May at 6 pm, organ concert with Maurice Clement in Saint Michael's Church in Luxembourg City: Fiori musicali, a musical journey through the European Baroque. As an intermezzo, flower and plant motifs in churches will be scrutinised. The concert is sponsored by the City of Luxembourg.

Here, you can find the full programme for the weekend with the addresses and opening times of the churches.
