This small bell does not hang in the bell tower as usual but is outside. Since it is a small village, its sound could be heard everywhere: In former times, it served as a timer for the villagers, indicated the beginning of church services and sounded at funerals as well as weddings.
The magnificent Baroque altar contains elements from ancient architecture and consists of columns with magnificent Corinthian capitals and round arches. A statue of the Mother of God with Child stands above the tabernacle structure. The crown on her head makes her recognisable as the Queen of Heaven.
The tabernacle (Latin: tent) is the place where the Eucharistic bread is kept. The Eucharist is symbolically represented here by an ear of corn and a bunch of grapes. The four angels, consisting of heads and golden wings, underline the divine presence in this place.
Saint Barbara is one of the fourteen helpers in need and is the patron saint of miners . Legend has it that she accepted the Christian faith and resisted marriage. As a result, she was locked up in a tower and sentenced to death. Here she is depicted with her attributes, the palm tree as a sign of her martyrdom, a book and the tower.
The small figure at the top left of the main altar depicts St George, mounted on a white horse and holding a lance, wrestling down the dragon at his feet. (His victory over the monster is interpreted as the victory of good over evil).
