10 a.m.: Festive mass celebrated by the choir 'Gospel Joys'. A special experience for the church-goers to hear those swinging Afro-American gospel songs during the celebration of the Mass. The exuberant joyful singing as support for the prayer is a surprising experience.

Why are there pineapples on the oak banister of the pulpit of St George's Church? Question from an interested tourist. They are not pineapples, but pomegranates. Why? The ripe fruit of the pomegranate 'explodes' and scatters a mass of seeds that provide new pomegranate plants. Just as the proclamation from the pulpit is intended to spread the faith. The neo-Gothic nineteenth-century church of the centuries-old parish (founded in 1304) is richly decorated and full of symbols that we often no...

The Sint-Jan-Baptist church is the only one of the 11 churches in Heist that possesses five altars. Another striking detail are the obiits or mourning blazons of the noble descendants of the Van Der Stegen family from the vanished Schriek castle. During Open Churches Days, the church can be visited freely. During the opening a guide will be present to tell you more about the special interior and to answer all your other questions.

Several free pious women are tangibly present in our church: the 12th century hermitess Jutta, had Kristina and Lutgardis as guests here in Borgloon. They left their mark. The dignity of Ursula, Odilia and their companions, depicted on the 12th century reliquary, colours the sacristy.

The paintings by Latem painters such as G. Van de Woestijne and A. Servaes, the colourful stained glass windows designed by H. Van de Perre, the carvings of the 15th-century altar, the Martinus statue by Omer Gilliet, so many elements that contribute to the quiet, subdued atmosphere of the church.

The Notre-Dame de Chèvremont Chapel was built in 1688 by the English Jesuits who had fled persecution in their country. They had set up a college in Liege for their students and seminarians and, according to their custom, they had found a country house in the place called "La Heid-du-Loup" (the college was located on the site of the English Hospital in Liege). During their walks around the site, they erected a small oratory which attracted the local inhabitants. In...
