1 & 2 June 2024St. Bertinus church is freely accessible during Open Churches Days. You can admire the recently renovated Our-Lady altar at the front left of the church. The west tower was also renovated in recent years. So take a look outside our church too. Note the tower cock shining back on the tower. On the Grote Markt side, you will also find the renovated Catherine statue. -
Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen is organizing the 9th edition of the Refugee Walk on 29th September 2024 in Gent! and once again we are actively seeking for a central location to host the event.
The Refugee Walk is a unique walk of 20 or 40 km in solidarity with people on the move. They belong to popes, bishops and especially noble castle lords and benefactors. Who are they? Where did these lords and their families live? When were they placed? Why are they depicted here? This will take place in the church itself and during the Open Church Days, the restorers will be happy to talk to you and you can literally come and look on their hands. 1 & 2 June 2024The original pulpit, in naturalistic style, has been on display in St Peter's Church in Leuven since the early 19th century. Would it return to its original home once more after all? Mary was always at home in the centre of Ninove. After all, the abbey church was dedicated to "the most Blessed Virgin Mary" in 1827. The current dedication "Our Lady Ascension" came with the transfer to the parish church. 1 & 2 June 2024The cross on the tower is from 1928 and was made by "Frans Barbieur ", blacksmith on the Biest. The cross became slanted due to storm "Eunice" in February 2022. As a result, the cross had to be removed to restore its anchorage. On 2 June, the tower cross will be set up in the church for viewing. 1 & 2 June 2024In March 2024, the painting was hung back in place above the main altar. This was immediately the final part of the restorations. The altar of Mary, the main altar and the Martinus altar now shine back in their former splendour. On Sunday, restorer Bart Verbeke will explain his work. The whole event will be accompanied by music. Free visits are possible throughout the weekend and explanations will be given on Sunday afternoon.Admire the restored paintings in the church

Sandra (b 1979, Ghent) obtained a master's degree in organ in 2006 from the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, and today teaches a.o. accompaniment practice and keyboard at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent.... -
