"Every house has its cross" says the old Flemish folk wisdom, indicating pain and sorrow, which are part of every human life. But with a crucifix in the home, a palm branch, a holy water barrel, etc., people also seek ways to deal with that pain and find trust, strength and protection in their faith.
The exhibition "Every house has its cross" shows how people - past and present - give a place to faith in their homes and family life through religious symbols and rituals.
During Heritage Week (and then throughout the summer) we will set up seven Biblical living rooms in St Martin's. The children will visit Abraham's tent, Mary's cottage, ... where the relevant Biblical figure tells his story (to be listened to via QR code). There are also two fun activities in each living room (one for 6-9, and one for 9-12).
