Collegiate Church | XV-XVIII | Gothic | Catholic Church
In 1775, Andreas-Jozef Vanden Gheyn cast the carillon for St. Peter's Church in Turnhout. 250 years later, we are celebrating! During the opening concert, singer Astrid Stockman was a guest and sang accompanied by the tower carillon. During the afternoon concerts in July, many listeners enjoyed a festive edition of the afternoon concerts on the carillon and organ. There is also a lasting reminder of this festive year in the form of a new carillon composition by Geert D'hollander, sponsored by Toerisme Turnhout vzw and Gaudioso.
In 2003, this Flemish-American carillonneur-composer was also commissioned to write a composition for the inauguration of the new carillon keyboard. That composition, entitled “Turn-in, Turn(h)out”, is now well known throughout the carillon world.
We are confident that the new work Geert has now written for the anniversary year will achieve the same level of recognition. It has been given the title “A Festive Turn(h)out” and will be distributed digitally to all carillonneurs after its premiere.
We would like to invite everyone to join us in celebrating the world premiere of this new carillon composition.
You are expected in the council chamber of the town hall opposite the entrance to St. Peter's Church on Saturday 30 August.
