Nobility and church

The guided tour leads to the tribune of the lords, which is not normally open to the public. The eventful history, from Sigefroi to the death of John the Blind in the battle of Crécy, is told through stained glass windows created in 1938 by Joseph Oberberger from Munich and only visible from this gallery. The tour is in German, Luxembourgish and French.

Earning your way to heaven

In the classic handbooks, the first church network is primarily attributed to the large monasteries that were located on the territory of present-day Luxembourg. The major role played by the landed gentry in the founding of churches is usually overlooked because it is unfortunately less well documented. Using selected examples, this illustrated lecture shows the role of the nobility as church founders and benefactors from the early Middle Ages to the beginning of the Renaissance. The lecture by Michel Margue, university of Luxembourg, is in Luxembourgish. ErwuesseBildung, 5, avenue Marie-Thérèse (Entrée G) L-2132 Luxembourg
