Theys & Miseur - Three glass masters each different

Theys & Miseur specialises in creating exclusive glass works ranging from restorations of fire glass windows to contemporary glass art such as paintings, bowls and jewellery. Daniël Theys is a master at restoring and making stained-glass windows. Son Daan went to Murano/Italy to learn the old techniques of glass blowing. In their studio in Holsbeek, he works on installations and paintings with or without glass. Mother Chris Miseur has specialised in the glass-fusing technique, where several layers of glass are fused on and into each other.

The Damiaang glass window in the church of Ninde (2009) is by Daniël and Daan Theys. Daan designed the stained-glass window and Daniël, as glazier, took care of the execution.

Description

The church of Tremelo-Ninde was designed by Leuven modernist architect Victor Broos. He derived his inspiration from the tactile brick modernism of Henry van de Velde and Willem Marinus Dudok. The church is single-aisle transeptless and seats 250 worshippers. It was part of the convent complex of the Picpus fathers from 1954. Since 1970, it has also been a parish church.

The fact that the church has Saint Damien of Molokai as its patron and is located next to his birthplace means it has a contemplative value for many. Schools from all over Flanders and visitors to the Damien Museum often stop in this prayer room. The church also lends itself easily to concerts and film screenings.

The stained-glass window is by glaziers Daniel and Daan Theys to a design by Daan Theys (atelier Theys-Miseur/Holsbeek/2009).
