OCD 2025 : Information
Walk through our religious places of worship, from top to bottom, from basement to attic. Ask the stones about their stories and their perspective on our history and heritage.
Not every church is able to open their basements or attics to visitors (sometimes because they simply aren’t there), but it is possible for all churches to display objects that are rarely or never shown to the public and are thus considered hidden. This will increase the number of churches that will feel inspired, but also adds a “mysterious” touch for visitors, as they get to discover something that is usually hidden. This includes potential stories concerning this part of our heritage. We give voices to the stones, the engravings, the sculptures, the metalwork, the paintings and everything that, in our eyes, holds a story.
On the upcoming May 31st and June 1st, the Open Churches Days will be opening the tourist season in Belgium.
This creates a great opportunity to bring our religious heritage to public attention through a joint effort by officials from municipalities, regions and provinces, along with fellow participants from tourism and culture, as well as church councils and parishes. All are invited to come up with an event and/or activities that can run for an entire summer: an exhibit, a spectacle, or a vigil repeated a number of times throughout the season, a tourist theme ride or guided tours on request, for example.
