The organ concert on 1 July will be given by Joost Termont. He too is a versatile man. He plays organ, harpsichord. But he has also made his mark as a singer and chorister. He composes himself and has been a teacher at several music academies and the conservatory. Joost used to be organist at the Holy Sepulchre and at St Peter's Church. He lets us enjoy works by Bach, Arvo Pärt, Roelstraete, among others.
To celebrate 250 years of the Turnhout carillon, you will hear very original sounds from the tower of St Peter's Church on Tuesday 1 July at 11.30 am, with the renowned soprano Astrid Stockman. City carilloneur Koen Van Assche will accompany her with the tower carillon while Astrid's voice is amplified from the tower. They will perform evergreens such as Moon River, La vie en rose, Con te partiro, ... Best place to listen is near the town hall.
Astrid Stockman is a trained classical pianist and singer. Her aim is to bring classical music to people who normally have little contact with it, including children.
Koen Van Assche is carillonneur of Turnhout, Antwerp, Lier and Herentals. He has won prizes at international carillon competitions and gives concerts and master classes in Europe, North America and Australia. Koen Van Assche is the current president of the World Carillon Federation.
In short, every Tuesday in July, Carillon concert at 11.30 a.m. on the market in Turnhout Organ, concert at 12.15 p.m. in St Peter's Church also on the market in Turnhout. With the possibility of an organ lunch afterwards in restaurant Agora.
