In the heart of Saulnois, the ‘Land of Salt’, the ancient stronghold of Moyenvic borders the Seille, a river that has played a key role in its history. The site is very old, with remains dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. But it was the Iron Age that left a lasting mark on the area, with the proto-industrial exploitation of the valley's natural salt springs, famous for their briquettes.The last saltworks in Moyenvic closed in 1897, during the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine by the German Empire, a period when the village was renamed ‘Medewich’. Spared by the First World War, it was completely destroyed in 1940 by some 500 shells and ten incendiary bombs. The inhabitants were expelled and families from the Bitche region were relocated there.Liberated on 8 November 1944, the village had to be completely rebuilt. The Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning entrusted this work to the architect Pierre Pagnon.The reconstruction of the current church was carried out in 1965 by the Parisian architect Gilles Bureau. It replaced the old 14th-century Gothic church, which was listed as a historic monument. Its unusual name pays tribute to the Greek saints Agent, Pient and Colombe, who came to evangelise the area in the 4th century and lived as hermits in Moyenvic. They are celebrated on 30 October.

Don't be put off by the rough, cold appearance of the concrete exterior: the interior reveals a soft blue light. Amongst the resolutely modern furnishings are a few older pieces, harmoniously integrated into the design.
