The garden of St. Salvator's Cathedral in Bruges is home to “The Nativity Scene of Bruges”. The large wooden nativity scene is a private initiative that enjoys the sympathy and support of many.
Because Christmas is a call for a just and united world, a good cause is linked to the project. For many years, the local branch of Davidsfonds helped to organise a nativity scene at the Christmas market.
'The Nativity Scene of Bruges' continues this beautiful tradition. After all, a nativity scene fits perfectly in this city with its multitude of signs and symbols of meaning and faith. The nativity scene is a timeless and universal concept. A recognisable and familiar symbol of our rich Christian tradition.
The nativity scene is rustic and authentic. It is inspired by the famous nativity scene in Turnhout, which in turn is inspired by the nativity scene painted by Breugel.
Carpenter David Hendrickx designed and built the crib. The statues were donated by Historium.
This year, “The Nativity Scene of Bruges” is supporting Welzijnsschakel Integraal.
