We’ll raise a glass to new friendships and a more vibrant church. Together, we’ll show that the church is more than we ever imagined!
You will be given a guided tour highlighting at least six of our heritage sites. In addition, the building itself will invite visitors to explore the new, contemporary story that this church is writing.
In this workshop on meditation, you won’t just learn what meditation is; you’ll also discover how to ensure that this practice isn’t simply ‘sitting still and doing nothing’. Expect thought-provoking insights, atmospheric music and a guided meditation session.
With insight and gentle irony, Torfs explores the significance of the church in our time. He shows just how indispensable humour is within the church itself. With a sense of perspective and a smile, he holds up a mirror to the church, without undermining its value. The church is always more than we realise.
We have been fortunate enough to have Jan De Smet, of De Nieuwe Snaar fame, agree to open this art exhibition. Artworks by De Pelicaen, Bieke Claessens and the nearby De Meyl school are on display.
Jan – whom you’ll know from De Nieuwe Snaar – is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who has built up a wealth of musical experience. He accompanies himself on various instruments and weaves stories and anecdotes into his music. Church and humour? As a Duffelaar, he’s sure to have a few words to say on the subject.
The winter chapel is ushering in spring and opening its doors and colours to the children, who are less interested in the solemn ceremonies of the grown-ups. This renovated space is well worth a visit. The ribbon will be cut by Sofi Van Ussel, director of Kamino.
At the Mijlstraatkerk’s Open House, we’ve been celebrating in a fresh way for quite some time now, centred around the Gospel reading for the first Sunday of the month. No supplication, but meditation. No dull songs, but inspiring ones. Yes, celebrating in church on a Sunday can be like this too.
Peter Pazmany lives on Mijlstraat. He will be travelling a few hundred metres to perform a fine selection of organ pieces. Peter conducts and composes, accompanies choirs and soloists, and stands in with ensembles across a range of genres, from classical to reggae. Come and listen!
During this session, you will be gently guided on a journey towards your inner self. Using the breath as a vehicle, we engage in a relaxed manner. In this way, we connect with the mind, allowing it to find peace and enabling it to bring something new into being.
