The vocal ensemble Vocarde is a group of singers from Dessel and the surrounding area, all of whom have undergone vocal or musical training. With a line-up of up to twelve singers, the ensemble performs polyphonic music from various periods and genres, both secular and religious. In doing so, they constantly seek variety in the polyphonic arrangements and the combination of singers. A free concert from the wonderful choir and instrumentalists of St Paul's Girl's School from London. The school has a long tradition of outstanding music and this concert forms part of their annual tour. The concert will last about 1 hour and is free to attend. Ideal for anyone interested in classical choir or instrumental music. -
For the fourth time, Michel Teheux and Luc Petit have created a commissioned work to celebrate the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame and St. Domitian during the Septennial Festival.
Acrobats, dancers and actors will compete in their art and performances to tell the story of Notre-Dame and thrill spectators, who will become actors themselves, to the rhythm of the breath of these thousand-year-old walls. Since at least 1495, the procession in honour of Saint Leonard has taken place on Whit Monday in the picturesque village of Sint-Lenaarts in the Noorderkempen. The life and deeds of Saint Leonard are central to this procession and are depicted with the help of some 650 participants, most of whom are children from local primary schools.
In addition to St. Leonard, this procession also includes veneration of the Virgin Mary and the Eucharist. -
On Whit Monday, the sea is traditionally blessed in Wenduine. Central to this event is the evocation of the legend of the Holy Cross. In the 16th century, after a storm surge, fishermen from Blankenberge retrieved a crucifix off the coast of Wenduine and brought it festively to the church of Wenduine. 6 - 7 JUNE 2026In November 2018, a delegation from Canada visited Nieuwkerke to return an altar stone. This stone was rescued from the ruins of the church in 1916 by a Canadian chaplain and taken to his homeland. This prompted us to dedicate several exhibition panels to the First World War and the reconstruction of the church and village.

6 - 7 JUNE 2026On Open Monument Day, 14 September 2025, it was exactly 100 years ago that the church was reconsecrated by Bishop Gustave Waffelaert. This gave us the idea to highlight the people who worked hard and were responsible for rebuilding this church from 1919 onwards. We found information about Father Achiel Six, architect Jozef Viérin, stained glass artist Camille Wybo and many other talented craftsmen, which we will discuss below.
