Opening concert with Astrid Stockman on 1 July 2025. To celebrate 250 years of the Turnhout carillon, you will hear very original sounds from the tower of St Peter's Church on Tuesday 1 July at 11.30 am, with the renowned soprano Astrid Stockman. City carilloneur Koen Van Assche will accompany her with the tower carillon while Astrid's voice is amplified from the tower. They will perform evergreens such as Moon River, La vie en rose, Con te partiro, ... Best place to listen is near the town hall. Astrid Stockman is a trained classical pianist and singer. Her aim is to bring classical music to people who normally have little contact with it, including children. Koen Van Assche is carillonneur of Turnhout, Antwerp, Lier and Herentals. He has won prizes at international carillon competitions and gives concerts and master classes in Europe, North America and Australia. Koen Van Assche is the current president of the World Carillon Federation. The organ concert on 1 July will be given by Joost Termont. He too is a versatile man. He plays organ, harpsichord. But he has also made his mark as a singer and chorister. He composes himself and has been a teacher at several music academies and the conservatory. Joost used to be organist at the Holy Sepulchre and at St Peter's Church. He lets us enjoy works by Bach, Arvo Pärt, Roelstraete, among others. Echoes is the fusion of two musicians performing echoes of well-known and lesser-known gems from early and contemporary music.
Tine Potters is a music teacher at Thomas More Turnhout in the teacher training programme and teaches students to express themselves expressively through music, dance and drama. She is also part of the family ensemble Potters Brass, which focuses on the connecting factor of music. Tine plays various brass instruments, including flugelhorn, cornet and trumpet. In addition, Tine is also a gifted singer.
Sara Van Gucht teaches English, history and religion at Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Westmalle, where she also accompanies the school choir together with colleague Guido. This jack-of-all-trades also has quite a list of hobbies and pastimes, many of which are musical and/or linked to her deep faith and music. Sara is not only a conductor, but also a singer, organist and pianist.
