Description
Gothic architecture is well known, above all thanks to the existence and preservation of famous cathedrals like Reims in Champagne,but there are churches which are visited much less, like that of Blecourt,which are really worth seeing.
Built in the 13th century it was a well frequented place of pilgrimage to the Virgin which attracted the faithful in September. Kings of France and Joan of Arc worshipped there. The building is in the shape of a Latin cross.
The interior is very large ( 78m by 36m and 16m high) with a big nave, 4 bays and 4 floors. Visitors are charmed by the brightness of the white stone, the purity of the lines and its harmonious proportions. Noteworthy, are the fine quality sculptures on the columns, the pulpit, a statue of the Virgin and Child (14th century) and the 19th century stained glass windows depicting the life of Christ and episodes of local life.

Statue of the Virgin Mary (14th century)
Spinning wheel
Rouet ou roue à clochettes qui est une des 50 roues de ce type connues en France. Jusqu'alors en piteux état, le rouet a été restauré en 2020. Six clochettes manquantes ont été fondues.
Organ (19th century)
Orgue d’une grande valeur historique, artistique et technique, il date de 1845 et a été construit par Jean-Baptiste Stoltz. L’instrument était destiné au départ à l’église Notre-Dame des Victoires à Paris mais a finalement été installé à Blécourt en 1866. Il est classé au titre de "monuments historiques" en janvier 1981.
Il est dans un bon état d’authenticité et sa sonorité est remarquable. Il est composé de 8 jeux : 2 jeux de trompettes, un basson-hautbois, 2 jeux de flûtes, 2 jeux de bourdon et 1 jeu de gambe. Il dispose d’un clavier de 54 notes et d’un pédalier de 25 notes.
Une étude de restauration complète est en cours.
Stalls (16th century)
Très bel ensemble de la renaissance, ces stalles sont classées au titre de "monuments historiques" en 1975. Elles viennent de l’ancienne abbaye du val des écoliers, près de Chaumont.
Christ (16th century)
Christ en croix en bois polychrome, classé en 1885.
Tribune (15th century)
Magnifique ensemble de 13 panneaux admirablement sculptés. Il est classé au titre des "monuments historiques" en 1849. Chaque panneau est différent dans son dessin.
