In the heart of Crisnée, Saint-Maurice Church stands out as an iconic landmark in the local landscape. Both a place of worship and a testament to the village’s history, it reflects the locals’ attachment to their heritage and traditions. Dedicated to Saint Maurice, the building features a simple and harmonious architectural style typical of rural churches in the region. Over the years, it has stood the test of time, retaining its central role in community life, hosting celebrations, moments of contemplation and significant events. Even today, Saint Maurice Church remains a powerful symbol of Crisnée’s identity, bridging living memory and heritage. It was completely renovated and consecrated by the Bishop on 19 June 2025.
The present building, constructed at the end of the 19th century, replaced an older church that had fallen into disrepair. Built in the Neo-Romanesque style, it is characterised by its simple and harmonious architecture.
Long at the heart of local life, the church has been the setting for the major milestones in the lives of the inhabitants: celebrations, festivals and gatherings.
It was completely renovated in 2025, funded entirely by the municipality of Crisnée, following the collapse of the front façade. A new roof and a new façade made of copper-plated zinc were installed. A winter chapel was built inside the building, which was itself completely repainted.
Even today, it remains a powerful symbol of Crisnée, embodying history, heritage and village identity.
