Let yourself be carried away by the harmony of faith and music during the Eucharist celebration at 11.30 a.m. The Pro Musica Beverst choir, conducted by Ludo Claesen, will accompany the liturgy with atmospheric works from various stylistic periods. On Whit Monday, the sea is traditionally blessed in Wenduine. Central to this event is the evocation of the legend of the Holy Cross. In the 16th century, after a storm surge, fishermen from Blankenberge retrieved a crucifix off the coast of Wenduine and brought it festively to the church of Wenduine. Today, this legend comes to life on the beach with folklore, dance, music and poetry, followed by the blessing of the sea and a triumphant procession with the Holy Cross and the Holy Sacrament to the church. Beforehand, there is a Mass in the church at 9.30 a.m.
The Holy Cross Church, with its stately tower and beautiful stained glass windows, is one of the oldest buildings in the municipality. Behind its walls lies a rich history full of stories and symbolism. Step inside and let Sister Greta take you on a fascinating journey through time.
