The procession starts at 2pm from the church in Barbençon. The Virgin is carried by members of the Confrérie Saint-Laurent de Beaumont and given a military escort by the Compagnie des Zouaves Pontificaux de Thuin. The procession leads the pilgrims to the chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame on the Fayt hill overlooking the village. Return to the church for the Assumption High Mass at 4pm.
A wonderful exhibition showing the origins and significance of the many statues of saints that can be seen in our Catholic churches. How can we identify the saint represented? Why is this saint still so popular today? Why is he or she invoked? How are wooden statues made? How are they protected from the ravages of time? All this, and a thousand other questions, will be answered in 12 abundantly illustrated panels. As an added bonus, there's a special feature on some of the saints who are particularly popular in our villages.
