Itinerary of a horse hunter in Napoleon's Guard

When Napoleon came to Wimereux to inspect the progress of work on the port, he was accompanied by the horse chasseurs of the Guard. Joseph Sansot was one of them. He had been accompanying Napoleon for many years, providing close security for the First Consul, and later the Emperor. Together, they experienced the battles of the Revolution and the Egyptian campaign, and then the victory of Austerlitz. Napoleon said at Fontainebleau on 20 April 1814: ‘Soldiers of my old Guard, I bid you farewell. You, my friends, continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought; it will always be the object of my wishes’. A companion of the Emperor, Joseph Sansot now lies in Boulogne cemetery.

Luc de Valence, lecturer, will present the astonishing itinerary of this horse hunter of the Imperial Guard and remind us that Napoleon signed his marriage contract in 1805.

Meet at the salon de la Baie Saint-Jean, rue Sainte-Adrienne (Wimereux).

From ‘Signé Furax’ to ‘Tribunal des flagrants délires’, a journey through the land of humour

From ‘Signé Furax’ to ‘Tribunal des flagrants délires’, a journey through the land of humour

From the TSF to the transistor...From Pierre Dac to Pierre Desproges...... There is an obvious link between the man who observed that ‘If we gave cows coffee, we'd be milking café au lait’ (Dac) and the man who proposed the following definition for ‘Quadrumane’: ‘who has four hands. Example: the nightingale is not quadrumane’ (Desproges)But absurdity wasn't the only thing the two Pierre (who both died of lung cancer!) and a few other comedians had in common...Talk presented by Dominique PatyMeet at the salon de la Baie Saint-Jean, rue Sainte-Adrienne (Wimereux).Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Artistic effervescence in the cosmopolitan Boulonnais region in the 19th century

Artistic effervescence in the cosmopolitan Boulonnais region in the 19th century

Leopoldine Blahetka (1809-1885), an Austrian pianist and composer in Boulogne-sur-Mer.In the 19th century, Boulogne-sur-Mer underwent spectacular development as a result of the sea-bathing craze, which attracted large numbers of British visitors. Artistic life also flourished. Numerous French and foreign artists performed at the theatre and casino. Albrecht Von Söhnen, president of Renaissance du Vieux Boulogne and a former teacher at the Lycée Heinrich Heine in Oberhausen, Rhineland (Germany), will present a portrait of a little-known musician, Leopoldine Blahetka (1809-1885), an Austrian pianist and composer who spent a long time in Boulogne-sur-Mer. This lecture will be followed by a concert of works by this artist, who deserves to be rediscovered, on Saturday 9 August in the church of Saint Pierre in Wimille.Meet up at the salon de la Baie Saint-Jean, rue Sainte-Adrienne (Wimereux).Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Grand Duo for 4 hands for piano by Léopoldine Blahetka

9 August 2025 : 20.30

Grand Duo for 4 hands for piano by Léopoldine Blahetka

Born in 1809 in Guntramsdorf, south of Vienna, Austria, child prodigy Leopoldine Blahetka toured European cities from an early age. During her recitals, she rubbed shoulders with such celebrities as Paganini and Chopin. After returning from a series of concerts in London, the young pianist settled with her parents in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1832, where she played host to the young Wagner and Meyerbeer. Until her death in 1885, she played a major role in musical life there, teaching and giving regular concerts. She was a member of the Philharmonic Society and her compositions were known throughout Europe. Today, she is regarded as a pioneer and one of the greatest composers of her time. The Grand Duo à quatre mains pour le pianoforte en fa dièse mineur, op. 47’, dedicated to Clara Wieck (the future Clara Schumann), performed this evening by the Piano Duo Shoko Hayashizaki & Michael Hagemann, is a major work that was recorded by the two pianists in its world premiere in 2024 and will be performed for the first time in France, on 9 August 2025 in the very region where it was composed.Rendezvous at Saint-Pierre church in Wimille.Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

From shipwreckers to sea rescuers

From shipwreckers to sea rescuers

Maritime traditions evolve over time. Three centuries ago and more, the Channel coastline, which we now call the Côte d'Opale, was known as a haven for privateers and sometimes shipwreckers. Exactly 200 years ago, a Franco-British committee from Boulogne set up what became France's first lifeboat station. From sea bathing safety to offshore rescue, the Société Humaine et des Naufrages, now part of the Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer, has been providing uninterrupted voluntary assistance to people in danger on the seas since 1825. The maritime world is grateful for the thousands of lives saved in this way.Meet up at the Baie Saint-Jean boat show, rue Sainte-Adrienne (Wimereux).Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

A walk through the Wimereux of yesteryear (6th stage)

A walk through the Wimereux of yesteryear (6th stage)

Arnaud Destombes is passionate about the history of Wimereux, which he deciphers through an extensive collection of postcards dating back to the town's origins, and enriched by family photos entrusted to him in a friendly manner. Using these visual aids, some of which are unique on glass plates, and a wealth of archive documentation, he takes pleasure in taking us back in time, adding personal accounts and anecdotes to the commentary on each photo. It's a great way to understand the Wimereux of today through the photos of yesterday. This tour, like the five previous ones, won't be a lecture, but just a convivial opportunity to discover the many photos from the early days of the seaside resort. We have no doubt that he will once again be able to astonish his large audience, impatient to find out more!Departure from the Salon de la Baie de Saint-Jean, rue Sainte-Adrienne (Wimereux).Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Children's dreams

25 August 2025 : 20.00

Children's dreams

Rêves d'enfants’ is a collection of pieces composed by Florian VERDIER and published by Bayard-Nizet (Belgium).Initially written for solo piano, they have been rethought and adapted to the contours of the jazz trio, inviting improvisation in tableaux of very different moods and colours. Like our dreams, unpredictable moments when everything becomes possible, the trio takes us into space, into a labyrinth, who knows where else...Each of these pieces is built around an ostinato, as heady as some of our dreams, which seem to follow their strangely coherent trajectory for as long as we are immersed in them. Each page turned is a new dream, different and unique, a bubble of joy, anxiety or nostalgia, a plunge into the air, under the sea, a suspension of time...See you at the Baie Saint-Jean salon, rue Sainte-Adrienne (Wimereux).Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
