Experience a unique fusion of different art forms during the Passion Octurne in Velzeke's St Martin's Church.
Moving music by Rheinberger, Fauré, Bach, Albinoni and Zelenka, among others, brings to life the mystical depth of the passion period in this compelling programme.
The St Martin's Choir led by Antoinette Tronquo, accompanied by the trio Flou Artistique (violin, cello, organ), ensures a pure and intense performance.
The poetry that Jürgen Soetens wrote especially for the Passion period and the paintings by Koen Penninck that further explore this theme bring old and new together in a special way.
We hope to welcome you on Friday 11 April at 8 pm in the stylish and atmospheric church of Velzeke for this Passion Service.
On the occasion of the 18th Open Churches Days of 2025 on 31 May and 1 June, paintings by Koen Penninck will be on display at Velzeke church. Besides his two permanent works, Broken Christ (2016) and Resurrected Christ (2007), visitors will have the chance to admire a wider selection from his oeuvre. In 2024, all objects in St Martin's Church were inventoried. Each piece was photographed and described. Besides Koen Penninck's paintings, some special pieces from the collection of liturgical textiles of St Martin's church will also be on display.
