The church at Amberloup is said to have been built on the site of a pagan temple dating from the 3rd century. The Amberloup estate was probably destroyed by the barbarian invasions of the 4th and 5th centuries. A stone bearing the inscription ‘Curia Aduen...’ can still be seen above the door of the building, a reminder that during the pax romana, Amberloup was an imperial forestry tax where officials regulated the management of the Ardennes forest.
The current building, which dates back to 1734, was greatly enlarged between 1825 and 1828 under the direction of Abbé Jean Noël Joseph Boreux.
