On 14 and 15 July 2021, Belgium will experience one of the worst disasters in its history. 39 people died, and the damage cost hundreds of millions of euros. In Verviers, one of the towns hardest hit, the damage was considerable, and three and a half years later, even though life has returned to normal, the wounds in people's heads and hearts are still very much alive.
From the outset, Adra Belgium was one of the first associations to intervene on the ground. This was done in 4 main ways: 1. In the first few days after the disaster, we called on around a hundred volunteers who were able to help around 30 families. 2. Subsequently, 72 dehumidifiers were deployed in 300 homes. 3. School equipment donated for 2,500 children. 4. 200 Christmas parcels for disaster-stricken children in Verviers. In addition, an Adra Belgium foodtruck will be offering vegetarian burgers to raise awareness of the association's social and humanitarian work on behalf of the most disadvantaged. A photo exhibition will also be on display.
