George O. Mergenthaler, a much-loved American soldier who was stationed in the village and who was killed in action on the very first day of the Battle of the Bulge, was commemorated with a memorial in this church. His parents supported the reconstruction and furnishing of the church through a foundation. Among other things, his face can be recognised in the mural in the choir, in the figure of the apostle distributing bread after the miracle of the loaves and fishes.Since 2020, the MNHM has been working on a database of all World War II monuments. The aim is also to record the biographical details of the victims listed and to trace their life stories.
