Description

The first mention of a church in Rue dates back to the early 7th century. It was dedicated to Saint-Wulphy, one of Rue's first priests. Pilgrimages around a crucifix washed up in 1101 led to the church being enlarged and embellished. But on 21 February 1798, a violent storm caused the vault to fall. It had to be demolished in 1827. The new church was built between 1828 and 1833, on the same site as the previous one. The furnishings included works from the old church as well as paintings donated in the 19th century.

The chapel dedicated to the Holy Spirit remains from the old church. This is a veritable jewel of flamboyant Gothic art. Its vaults and treasuries are magnificently decorated, with fine "lace" sculptures and exuberant motifs.
