01 June 2025 : 10.00 - 17.00Visit the exhibition ‘Crusade’ painted by Pol Hendrix after the New Testament according to Mark. The testament according to Mark is the oldest of the 4 new testaments and has curious differences from the other 3 testaments. Simultaneously, an exhibition on processions and pilgrimages in and from Grootlo is also running.

Description
As early as 1450, old writings mention a chapel in Grootlo. Like other religious buildings, the chapel suffered from the religious troubles of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. In 1799, French soldiers destroyed a statue of Our Lady and the only bell. In 1833, the chapel was restored. A few years later, the dilapidated tower was pulled down and the rest of the roof was repaired. In 1936, the construction of the present church started.
