In a period before Belgium existed, Laurent-Benoît Dewez (1731-1812) was undoubtedly the most prominent architect in our region. As court architect to the Austrian governor Charles of Lorraine, he was known for his contributions to neoclassical architecture, a style popular during the late 18th century. More specifically, his oeuvre was dominated by the creation of a unitary ‘Eglise Belgique’.

In 2025, the exhibition on flora in churches is touring buildings in Haute-Marne and the Vosges. The tour starts at Joinville church from 4 March to 27 April.
