The red thread of the Rondia

Various sanctuaries have succeeded one another on the site now occupied by the collegiate church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Domitian. Of the Romanesque church, only the vast crypt remains, where the treasure is on display. The main façade of the massive west tower of the collegiate church features the famous "Rondia". In this stained glass window we can see two circles, a blue one symbolising the Virgin and a red one for the blood of the 10 Hutu martyrs. It is this ring that will form the 'red thread' of our visit. The tympanum at the entrance to the Rue des Cloîtres, traditionally called "Bethlehem", shows sculpted scenes relating to the birth of Jesus. It is dated from the middle of the 14th century.
