It is also a city with a rich past to which the many top works of art attest. This is certainly true in St John's Church. Not only does it have The Adoration of the Magi by Peter Paul Rubens on display, there are also unique 14th-century murals hidden in the tower.

1 & 2 June 2024Lucas Faydherbe was the sculptural equivalent of Peter Paul Rubens. He created the impressive relief arches under the dome of Our Lady of Hanswijk Basilica, a building he also designed himself.

In a first phase, the exterior nave of the church was cleaned and fully restored (Roof and facade, Romanesque entrance gate...). In a second phase, the choir (with its beautiful stained-glass windows) and sacristy were restored. Restoration of the inside of the church is planned... -
1 & 2 June 2024Due to the fact that our little church was known for pilgrimages to Our Lady as early as the 13th century, it has been regularly remodelled and enlarged. Visitors can recognise different style periods.

The children will visit Abraham's tent, Mary's cottage, ... where the relevant Biblical figure tells his story (to be listened to via QR code). There are also two fun activities in each living room (one for 6-9, and one for 9-12).
