Events Open Churches Days 2021

  • 5 & 6 June 2021
    The bell tower, in Brabant Gothic style, houses one of the oldest carillons in Belgium. It has 51 bells. The two oldest date from 1512 and the largest weighs 2750 kg. Accompanied by a guide, you can climb to the top of the tower and listen closely to the carillonneuse.

    The church of Saint-Martin, listed since 1945, dates from the 11th century and was enlarged in the 16th and 17th centuries. The church, situated in the middle of the former Marcq cemetery, houses several polychrome statues, remarkable organs, blue stone baptismal fonts and several other remarkable objects.

    Built around 1100 in Romanesque style, only the tower and buttresses remain. The church was rebuilt in the 17th century and surmounted by a spire which collapsed in 1674. It was restored and consecrated in 1778. Altarpieces and statues adorn this place where the Divine Saviour is venerated to heal physical infirmities.

    First stone laid in 1904, inaugurated and blessed in 1905. Its plan comprises a single vessel with 3 bays under a panelled vault in an inverted ship's hull, preceded by a small porch, a projecting false transept, a chancel and a side bell tower flanked by a circular stair turret.

They had set up a college in Liege for their students and seminarians and, according to their custom, they had found a country house in the place called "La Heid-du-Loup" (the college was located on the site of the English Hospital in Liege).     The church tower of Bel is a listed monument. It is the only remnant of the church built around 1500 in honour of Saint Lambert. The present church was built in neo-gothic style in 1877-1878. Apart from a beautiful interior, the church also contains a Bremser organ from the 17th century and a new choir organ from the 19th century.
