Discover the extraordinary story of Ivor Gurney, a young British poet and composer. During the First World War, he stayed in Buire-au-Bois after being wounded. During his convalescence, he wandered through the Buire countryside, which inspired his poetry and music. Before leaving for the Ypres front in 1917, he took part in a concert in the Buire-au-Bois church.
On his return to England, the memory of Ivor Gurney fell into oblivion in Buire-au-Bois, until Reniere & Depla, a couple of Belgian artists living in Buire-au-Bois, discovered it. For the past two years, they have been researching the tragic fate of this character and would like to pay him a final tribute by offering a concert featuring his compositions, performed by Maciej Pikulski (piano) and Wilfried Van den Brande (baritone). This concert will mark the opening of their artists' residency at the “In Flanders Fields Museum” in Ypres (B), which will be followed by an exhibition at the Museum (July-December 2025). A book will be published to mark the occasion, with contributions from various authors.
Programme: this is a classical singing event, performed in English.
Places are limited: bookings only.
