With insight and gentle irony, Torfs explores the significance of the church in our time. He shows just how indispensable humour is within the church itself. With a sense of perspective and a smile, he holds up a mirror to the church, without undermining its value. The church is always more than we realise.

The old Stations of the Cross depict the various “stations” as a kind of comic strip with many figures. Calmerlinckx's Stations of the Cross do not show general images but close-ups. For example, you never see the cross in its entirety, but everywhere you see a block of wood. The facial expressions and especially the hands are crucial.

A side altar dedicated to Saint Peter, the church’s patron saint, is largely complete, is currently being finished off and is open to the public. There are many biblical scenes that could be depicted featuring Peter. The altarpiece maker chose one of the most crucial: the denial, with the cockerel causing Peter to break down. The other side altar, dedicated to Mary, has recently been fitted with new linen draperies that cascade down from heaven, sprinkling the earth.
