The youngest parish in our community was founded as a chapel in 1942. In a few months, a chapel was built, which now serves as the parish hall. The foundation stone of the present church was laid in 1966. The design is a modern and sober church building.
Most striking in the equally sober interior are the large, modern stained-glass windows, a wooden statue of Mary and the painting 'De Lanssteek' by Dirk Lemmens. This painter from Heist was inspired by the work of the same name by P.P. Rubens. The wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, a Madonna and Child, was made by Lucien de Gheus. The statue of the Virgin Mary at the back of the church comes from the old chapel that used to stand on this spot.
